What kind of weather can we expect?

Nepal experiences four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The weather around the country varies with the season. Spring season starts from March and ends in May.The days are warm, and the skies are clear. During this time, trekkers will get to sight numerous wildflowers blooming all along the trail. Following the spring, summer arrives (June-August). The precipitation level is high, and monsoon rains are frequent during this time. The autumn season begins in September and ends in November. The temperature during this time is ideal for trekking and hiking. From December to February, the temperature decreases and goes below 0 degrees in higher altitudes. Most of the days are cloudy, and the views are obstructed.

How much is physical fitness required to trek in Nepal?

There are numerous trekking trails in Nepal. All these trekking trails are divided into difficulty levels ranging from easy, moderate, and difficult to strenuous. The comfortable and moderate treks require no previous trekking experience or any physical and technical training. It can be done by anyone who is in good health. The challenging treks do not require any fitness or technical training, but do expect some previous trekking experiences. On the other hand, strenuous trekking like peak climbing requires physical and professional training.

Is it safe to travel to Nepal?

Speaking in general terms, it is safe to travel in Nepal. However, sudden strikes or protests are not uncommon. Hence, tourists are advised to remain updated with the local news. In case of any such strikes or protests, tourists should avoid traveling on that day. Still, in case of emergencies, they can go on buses (or travel) arranged by the government.

All the visitors should have valid travel insurance for any kind of theft, accident, or natural disaster. Tourists should keep an open eye for scams like vendors trying to sell goods for an inflated price and other credit-card scams.

Do I have to prepare for trekking in Nepal?

In terms of physical fitness, for a tourist opting for strenuous trekking, it is advised to receive physical fitness and technical training beforehand. For smooth, moderate, and challenging treks, professional training is not a compulsion, but it always better to remain fit. You can prepare yourself for the trek by doing some exercises like running, jogging, or swimming regularly from the month before your trek. For gears and other equipment, you need not worry. The travel agency will manage all the necessary gear and equipment for you at your cost.

How difficult is trekking?

While trekking in Nepal, you will have multiple options to choose from. These treks range from easy, moderate, difficult to the strenuous difficulty level. So, it depends on which trek you want. However, each trek requires at least 5-6 hours of walking, on average, every day. Generally, trails will be gentle at lower altitudes and become steeper as you gain altitude. However, as these trails pass through the beautiful green hills of the country, they are bound to have ups and downs.

When is the best time to trek?

Spring and autumn seasons are the best time to trek in Nepal. The days will be sunny and warm. The sky will be clear, and the views will be stunning. The mornings and nights might be cold as you gain altitude. During spring, the entire trekking paths will be vibrant with the blooming of Rhododendrons all around. During summer, as the temperature rises, the precipitation level will be high. Due to heavy rainfall, chances of landslides increases. While during winters, the cold becomes unbearable, which makes trekking impossible.

What type of food is available during the trek, and where will we be eating?

Throughout the trek, accommodation will be managed in teahouses and lodges. These teahouses and lodges provide hygienic and organic food. The trekking package will include three meals for each day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At around 6:00 to 7:00 am, breakfast will be provided, which will be tea along with eggs and toasts, or porridge or pancakes. Then, after walking for about 2-3 hours, lunch will be provided around noon. The lunches will be authentic Nepali Daal Bhat (boiled rice and lentils) with side dishes consisting of seasonal vegetables, spinach, and pickle. Dinner will be arranged at the teahouse where trekkers will be spending the night and will contain a similar menu as that of lunch. These teahouses offer a wide variety of cuisine. If trekkers would like to eat anything else, they can, but please note that trekkers themselves will have to pay for it. Also if you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know during booking.

How much money should I carry along with me?

All of your significant costs like accommodation, meals, entry fees, and permits are included in the package cost. Apart from that, for personal expenses like shopping, renting or buying gears, eating out in cafes, bars, and pubs, tipping your guide and porters, you will require some money. For this,USD500-USD800 would be enough.

What kind of clothes should I pack for trekking?

While trekking in Nepal, you will have to clothe in layers. You should make sure that your inner layer is quick-dry, light, and has excellent breathability like synthetic t-shirts. Down or fleece jackets are a must, and the outer layer must be wind and waterproof. If you are trekking to the altitude of more than 3000 meters, you need to add more layers as it will be colder in higher elevations. Also, make sure to pack smaller items like gloves, towels, sunglasses, hats, light cotton inners, and scarves. As for trekking in lower altitudes, you will require one thin thermal and loose track pant or fleece pants. Comfortable hiking shoes and sandals like crocs are also necessary.

We do not have much time, in such circumstances, which trek do you suggest?

There are plenty of short duration trekking options available in Nepal. If you like to gaze at the majestic Mount Everest itself, you can go on a weeklong Everest View trek. It starts from Lukla and goes up to Tengboche before returning to Lukla. If you prefer walking through vibrant forests and beautiful villages inhabited by different indigenous groups, you should go for Langtang valley trek (7 days) or Gosaikunda Lake trek (5 days).In the Annapurna region as well, there are plenty of short trekking options which provide a picturesque 360-degree mountain panoramic views like Khopra Danda Trek (5 days), Annapurna Base Camp (7 Days), and Poonhill Trek(4 days).

How many hours do we have to walk per day?

On average, you will have to walk for about 5 or 6 hours each day. Upon reaching the height of 3000 meters, you will be ascending only about 400 meters per day to avoid altitude sickness. However, due to the rugged nature of the path, it might be slippery and sloppy, so it will take about 5 to 6 hours to complete it. Besides, it depends on the pace of the trekker as well, if you have a rapid pace, it might take 4 hours, but if you have a slow, it might extend up to 8.

Can I trek alone?

You can easily travel alone through specific trails like Ghorepani-Poonhill, Langtang Valley, and Dhampus-Ghandruk. Many tourists visit these trails that have several teahouses and other infrastructures. The route is easy as well. You may as well trek to other regions alone, but we do not advise it because you will be prone to accidents and the risk of getting lost. If you are traveling in a remote region, it will be much easier for you if you hire a guide cum porter. However, make sure that your guide is associated with a reputed agency and is experienced.

Can we add or minimize days during our trek?

Yes, you can add or minimize days during your trek. Please note that no refunds will be made if you request to reduce the number of days after the trek begins. But, if you require while booking or a month before the trek starts, we might consider it as per circumstances, and suitable refunds shall be made. Likewise, if you request to add days after the trek begins, an extra charge might be charged because making a reservation at the lodges at that moment will cost more and is difficult to manage. However, if you request us a month before the trek, it can be operated at reasonable costs.

How much weight can we carry during treks?

One porter usually carries weight ranging from 20-25 kilograms. Therefore, you should pack accordingly. Please also note that Nepalese airlines allow only 15 kilograms of weight per passenger, for each additional kilogram, Ideally speaking, for short treks, your luggage should weigh around 7 kilograms, for medium duration treks, about 10 kilograms, and approximately 15 kilograms for long treks. Trekkers are advised to carry only essential belongings, and any extra luggage that is not needed during the trek can be stored at hotel lockers.

Can I get a Nepalese visa on arrival?

Most of the tourists qualify for an on-arrival visa. The nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine Somalia, Syria and Zimbabwe need to get visa approval before their arrival. Indians do not need a visa to travel to Nepal. Other nationals from the SAARC countries need to pay the visa fees. To obtain the visa, you need to have a passport that will be valid until the next six months. You will also have to pay specific visa fees based on the type of visa.

What is the necessary equipment required for trekking?

Trekking through the Himalayas requires specific gears to make all the walking comfortable. Necessary equipment for trekking includes hiking poles to lessen the impact on your joints, hiking gaiter to protect your lower leg and ankles. Porters find it easier to carry duffle bags, so if possible, pack your belongings in such bags. Sleeping bags, water bottles, heavy down jackets, a backpack of around 60l, and a headlamp with a couple of extra batteries are other necessary equipment for trekking. Trekkers are also required to carry water purification tablets, lotions, and a primary first aid kid.

Can I rent trekking gear and equipment?

Yes, you can rent trekking gear and equipment. On your arrival at Kathmandu, your accommodation will be managed at a hotel in Thamel. Nearby your hotel, you will find plenty of rental shops where you can rent all the necessary equipment like heavy down jackets, sleeping bags, and even hiking boots of any size. Based on your budget you can rent or buy trekking equipment’s.

Is it necessary to have a guide during the trek?

You can travel through the Himalayas alone, but your experience might not be as enriching as it could have been with a guide. The trekking guides know every hidden treasure and exciting areas of the region, which you might not find out on your own. With trekking guides, there is no chance of getting lost. Also, they are well-trained to assist you in case of accidents or any emergency conditions. Therefore, guides are not completely necessary, but it becomes a much more relaxed and better experience if you have a trekking guide with you. Restricted areas cannot be traveled alone and needs special permits and a guide.

What if I get altitude sickness?

We carefully plan your itinerary with acclimatization stops as per need. Despite all the efforts, altitude sicknesses are common during treks. The symptoms of altitude sickness are headache, coughing, loss of appetite, and fatigue. If you experience the symptoms of altitude sickness, immediately inform your guide. Rest for the day and take medicines like Diamox. If it does not help, descend to a lower altitude. If even lowering the height does not help, abandon the trek and visit the nearest hospital immediately. Health insurance and/or Heli insurance is must for any emergency rescue from trek.

Is there any age limit for trekking in the Himalayas?

No, there is no age limit for trekking in Nepal. So, anyone with functional physical fitness can go trekking. Children older than ten years, as well as older people, can go on a natural or moderate labeled trek. However, the difficult labeled and strenuous treks are not suitable for young children and older people. If you have children under age 10, porters can be arranged to carry them throughout the trek. Also, a unique itinerary can be arranged for groups with older people and children.

Are there telephone and internet facilities available during the trek?

Almost all of the teahouses in these trekking regions provide a telephone facility for free. Recently many teahouses have also connected WI-FI subscription and offer it for free, but some might charge specific fees for the WI-FI usage. You can also buy an NTC or Ncell SIM card after you land in the capital city. You can use this SIM card to communicate, and you can use a data pack for internet accessibility as well. As you ascend, the network might be weak in some places. Therefore, SIM-card services might not work everywhere.

What are the differences between private and group join treks?

Group join treks have fixed departure dates, while for private treks, departure date can be arranged as per client’s wish. You will be able to customize itinerary, accommodation, and means of transport during the private trek, but the same cannot be done for group treks. Group treks are likely to be cheaper than private treks. Private treks are suitable if you want to spend quality time with yourself, your friends and family. Just the same, group treks are for people who are looking forward to meeting new people.
