Trip overview
Island peak climbing is a popular mountain climbing destination in Nepal. It is relatively shorter than other expedition programs available in the country. From Dingboche, the Island peak looks like an island in the sea of snow. That’s where the mountain got its name from. Standing 6,189m above sea level, Island peak climbing is still a daring challengewith a lot of adventure. In this trip, along with climbing the peak, you will also see the lives of locals like Sherpas living in different places of Nepal.
Island peak climbing is a 13-day trip. Throughout the trek, you will visit various places like Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Tengboche that showcase the simple lifestyle of the Sherpa people. The trip starts from Kathmandu, where your permits will be processed. You will prepare for the journey with the help of our staff before flying to Lukla.
From Lukla, you will trek to Phakding. The beautiful villages like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche will win your heart. You will also discover the culture of Sherpas living in this region. At Dingboche, you will rest for a day and spend another day for acclimatization. You take short walks and hikes to the nearby hills in Dingboche.Then, you will trek to Island Peak base camp before climbing Island Peak.
You will walk through villages like Lukla, Namche Bazaar, and through beautiful pine forests. The journey also offers alluring views of the Khumbu region and the beautiful blend of Nepali and Tibetan culture. You will get to view mountains like Ama Dablam and Mount Everest. Enjoy every moment of the trek as you pass by beautiful Buddhist shrines.
March-May and September-November is the best time to enjoy this trek. Since the weather is pretty stable, there won’t be any climate-related problems during the trek. The skies are clear, and you can enjoy the beauty of the Khumbu region to the fullest.

Itinerary
After you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be received by our staff and brought to the hotel in a private car or van. You will spend the rest of the day strolling around the streets of Kathmandu and prepare for the trip.Your guide will brief you with the necessary information for the journey.
After a thrilling flight to one of the most dangerous airports in the world, you will trek to Phakding. The flight is about 40minutes long, and the trek is about 3-4 hours. You can enjoy the scenic views of mountains and villages during the flight as well as the trek. You will walk beneath the beautiful mountains like Ama Dablam. Overnight at Phakding.
After a good breakfast at Phakding, you start our journey to a significant village in the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar (3,440m). This village is also called the gateway to Mount Everest. On the way to Namche from Phakding, you cross many suspension bridges over many small rivers. You walk through the pine forests before reaching the hotel. You can stop at different places to observe the beautiful surrounding and take photographs. After hiking for about 6 hours, you reach Namche Bazaar and spend the night there.
After breakfast at Namche Bazaar, you head up to Tengboche (3,870m). The trek to Tengboche is a moderate trek with few ups and downs. On the way to Tengboche, you can enjoy the beautiful view of mountains like Ama Dablamand Everest. We also pass through pine forests where we encounter the wildlife of the Khumbu region before finally reaching Tengboche. Overnight in a lodge.
From Tengboche, we will head towards Dingboche (4,350m) through a stone-paved path. It’s a 5-6 hours trek. On the way, you pass through villages and monasteries with architectural excellence. You will also walk across a dense rhododendron forest before reaching Dingboche. Overnight at Dingboche.
You take a rest day at Dingboche and prepare for the climb while observing the local cultural and natural beauty.You will visit nearby monasteries and temples and talk to local Sherpas about their culture and lifestyle.
You take a break from long walks and spend yet another day for acclimatization. Youcan take short walks around the village and short hikes to nearby hills and prepare to trek in higher altitudes with harsher climate. Overnight at Dingboche.
After breakfast at Dingboche, we start our journey towards Island Peak Base Camp (5,050). On the way to the base camp, you can enjoy beautiful scenes of Ama Dablam and Lhotse. After reaching the base camp, you will prepare for the climb. At the base camp, you will get a feeling like you are in a sea of snow. Your guide will give some final instructions and training to use the climbing gear.Overnight at camp.
Today is probably the main day of the trek. We start early in the morning. We start our ascent very early in the morning to avoid any weather problems. The climb will be a bit difficult than previous days because of the tools and gear you have to use. But with our trained guides, the climb won’t be that difficult. After reaching the top, enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Then, we head down and trek to Chukung. Overnight at Chukung.
After breakfast, you start our trek to Namche Bazaar. You slowly descend to the villages leaving behind the beautiful scenes of the mighty mountains like Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. It won't be a difficult walk. Overnight at Namche.
Today is the final day of the trek. Enjoy walking in the laps of the mighty mountains and beautiful Sherpa villages. On the last day in the Himalayas, you willtrek to Lukla.You walk through pine forests and cross small springs. You stop at various places to take photographs of the panoramic view of mountains. Overnight at Lukla.
Today, you fly back to Kathmandu, waving goodbye to the beautiful mountains of the Himalayas. It is a 40-minute flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. You come back to the hotel in Kathmandu and spend the night there.
You will be dropped at the airport by our staff just in time for your flight. We bid you farewell, hoping to see you again.

Useful Info
- Permit: To climb Island Peak, you need to obtain a climbing permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). You can obtain the permit from Kathmandu, and you'll need to provide a copy of your passport and passport-sized photographs.
- Guide: It's required to have a climbing guide with you when climbing Island Peak. Your guide will be responsible for leading you through the route, setting up the ropes, and ensuring your safety throughout the climb. Make sure to choose a licensed and experienced guide to ensure a safe and successful climb.
- Trekking: The climb to Island Peak starts with a trek to the Everest Base Camp or Kalapatthar, which takes around 12-14 days. You'll need to have a good level of fitness and be prepared for long days of walking at high altitude. Proper acclimatization is also essential to avoid altitude sickness.
- Equipment: You'll need proper climbing equipment for the climb, such as crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, and rope. Make sure to rent or bring high-quality gear and check that it's in good condition before the climb.
- Accommodation: There are several lodges and teahouses along the trekking trail to Island Peak. The accommodation is basic, with shared rooms and common areas, but it provides a comfortable place to rest and recover before the climb.
- Best season: The best time to climb Island Peak is during the Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is dry and stable. The temperatures are also milder, making it more comfortable to climb.
