Trip overview
Situated just 20 miles away from the capital city of Kathmandu, Nagarkot is a beautiful hill station with a splendid mountain panorama. Nagarkot is a perfect destination for tourists who do not wish to travel far away from the capital and those who are on a shorter holiday. The picturesque scenery of the sun rising over the Himalayan peaks of Ganesh, Khumbu, Langtang, DorjeLakpa, Manaslu, and Gaurishankar ranges will leave the visitors enchanted.
The Nagarkot tour starts with some sightseeing in the beautiful ancient town of Bhaktapur. Here, you will get to observe some excellent craftsmanship of the 15th century on the famous 55-windowed Palace and nearby temples. After that, your journey towards Nagarkot continues. In the evening, you will get to witness the spectacular sunset from the viewpoint. On the next day, from the same viewpoint, you will be looking over at the 180 degrees Himalayan view as the first rays of sun hit the snow-capped peaks, before traveling back to Kathmandu.
Even though Nagarkot is just two hour’s drive from Kathmandu, it has its rural authentic Nepali outlook preserved. The green forests and the lush meadows give the place a naturally refreshing environment. You can travel to Nagarkot at any time throughout the year, but make sure that the days are bright and sunny for better views. During spring (March-May) and autumn (August-November), Nagarkot becomes more vibrant with flowers blooming all around.
If you are someone who enjoys hiking, we can even plan a 3-day long hiking trip to Nagarkot. You will make your way through the dense forest of Shivapuri National Park, passing by waterfalls and varieties of flora and fauna towards Chisapani village, and then to Nagarkot. Or, as an alternative, you could begin from Bhaktapur sightseeing and then make your way to the Nagarkot via the famous Changunarayan Temple.
Nagarkot is famous not only among tourists but also among the local Nepalese. They usually travel there to escape all the hustle of the city at weekends. Nagarkot is a worthy destination to spend a peaceful, relaxing, and revitalizing night.
